The Happiness Project
January 2015 : Boost Energy
Vitality
January focuses on boosting energy.
"Research shows that, being happy energizes you, and at the same time, having more energy makes it easier for you to engage in activities- like socializing and exercise-that boost happiness."
SLEEP
Go to bed earlier! Period.
The average adult needs to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
"Sleep deprivation impairs memory, weakens the immune system, slows metabolism, and might, some studies suggest, foster weight gain."
A few tips that may help you fall asleep faster and get a better night's sleep:
-turn off the light
no reading in bed or watching tv
no nightlights, etc. (try to get room as dark as possible)
-keep your bedroom slightly chilly
- do a few pre-bed stretches
- get ready for bed well before bedtime
-stop thinking about all you have to do tomorrow
Then, there is my personal favorite: take a bubble bath!!!
I really do love sleep!
But I'm a night owl,
and then pay for staying up too late the next morning when the alarm goes off.
I don't have a problem with not sleeping, I just don't seem to get enough of it.
I always feel like I could take a nap,
but normally don't, because I can't seem to find time in my busy day to fit one in.
I am NOT a morning person, but would like to be one.
Peter jumps out of bed every morning.
Me...well, let's just say I need a little time to get going.
Unfortunately, both of the boys took after me with this trait too.
Made for many a grumpy morning here at our house over the years.
I really don't understand morning people at all.
My Mom will wake up in the morning, go to the bathroom,
and end up cleaning the entire bathroom before she comes out.
Not me!
I really would like to become a morning person though.
I hear it's great for getting some alone time, a little quiet time to get your thoughts together, or take a walk or do your devotions.
But, how do you become a morning person?
I googled it and there were a gazillion tips on how to become one.
Coffee was a biggie...should I be drinking coffee in the morning???
But the #1 tip was......get enough sleep!!!
So, I am going to take my own advice
and TRY to change my sleeping habits.
And TRY to get more sleep.
Who knows, I just might start waking up like this....
instead of this.
I'll let you know how that goes.
