For Peter's birthday last summer, in lieu of gifts, I gave him a get-away weekend. We did Inner Harbor and an O's game in Baltimore, spent the next day in Ocean City, and finished up the trip doing lunch and a visit to a dairy farm with Lindsey on the third day. We both enjoyed it so much, and decided to make birthday get-aways an annual thing. Fast forward to March, it's now my birthday month and I'm wondering if we'll be able to fit in another trip so soon after our big trip to Disney last month. Peter had an appointment in Baltimore coming up, so we decided to make it an overnight stay for my birthday. I was hoping Peter would surprise me and plan something, but he said if I wanted something different, then I better do the planning myself. :O) Okay!
Since we were only spending the night and didn't have much time, I had to keep it local. I have been wanting to go back to Lewes, DE since spending a night there a few years ago on our way to Cape May. I started searching hotels and food options and quickly decided that's where I wanted to go! On our last visit there, I remember very little details. I wasn't blogging then, so no posts to look back at. I have no idea where we had dinner that night, but I do remember our awesome stay at Inn at Canal Square ( rated #2 of 7 hotels in Lewes). However, this time, another hotel sparked my interest.

We passed Nathan's tug on the way to Crisfield. :O)
We made a really quick stop to see Logan and Lindsey before driving to Baltimore.
They gave me my birthday gift which I love!!!

After Peter's appointment in Baltimore, we headed to Delaware, stopping for lunch at Five Guys followed by dessert at Sweet Frog.
I hadn't made a hotel reservation, but had called a few days prior to ask a few questions. I can usually tell if I'm going to like staying somewhere by first impressions on the phone, and the girl I spoke with was very nice and helpful. I read lots of reviews before deciding on places to stay and always check TripAdvisor for ratings, reviews, photos, etc.
I chose Hotel Blue, a 16-room upscale boutique hotel. We loved it! Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. It had a fireplace and a balcony, and a gorgeous (huge) bathroom.

After checking in, we drove around town, stopping at Cape Henlopen State Park.
I was hoping to climb the observation tower (Peter...not so much)!

Back in town, we went to Striper Bites for dinner.
There are so many dining options in Lewes, it was really hard to choose. I was very happy with my choice....dinner was d-e-l-i-s-h!!
Peter ordered the Seared Tuna app....
and Blackened Halibut w/Lemon Butter Buerre Blanc,
mashed potatoes and salad.
I got the Crab Bisque
and Lobster Roll w/a side caesar salad.
Of course, we were too stuffed for dessert!
We called it a night and headed back to the hotel.
The fireplace was nice on this cold night!
It wraps around to the bedroom and there is also another tv on the wall facing the bed.
Hotel Blue is rated #1 of 7 hotels in Lewes and is well-deserved. We would definitely stay there again in the future.

We headed to Salisbury early the next morning since we had some shopping to do. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast, so I had decided on Honey's Farm Fresh - it had great reviews and was rated #3 on the best restaurants in Lewes list. Unfortunately, it is closed on Wednesdays during the off-season. :O( I was a bit disappointed, but remembered my other choice, which was a little further up the road.
This place was hopping!!! The staff was super nice and the food was sooooo good! We both ordered the scrapple, egg, & cheese bagel w/iced coffee and OJ.
It is worth the drive to Lewes, just for this! :O)
It's no wonder that Surf Bagel is rated #2 on Lewes' best restaurant list!
After a little shopping, we spent some time with Logan. Allie is getting so big!
Lindsey was at work, so we missed seeing her today. Hopefully, it won't be too long before we can visit again.
Even though this was a short get-away, we had a great time and once again found some great places that we hope to return to again someday. :O)
