Fried Green Tomatoes

Peter finally planted some tomato plants this year and they have been more than abundant. Those three plants have produced more than enough tomatoes for us, our family, neighbors, & friends. He picked the last of the ripe tomatoes this morning, and decided it was time to call it a season for the rest. We have always been curious about fried green tomatoes....we love tomatoes and anything fried, so why wouldn't we love fried green tomatoes? We decided to give them a try, so I looked up some recipes online and we decided on the following:
FRIED GREEN TOMATOES
4 lg. green tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 cup flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
oil
Directions:
1. Slice tomatoes 1/2 inch thick. Discard the ends.
2. Whisk eggs and milk together in bowl. Scoop floor onto a plate. Mix cornmeal, crumbs, salt & pepper in another bowl. Dip tomatoes in flour to coat. Then dip in egg mixture, then crumb mixture.
3. In large skillet, pour oil and heat over medium heat. Place tomatoes in pan and fry until golden brown, turning halfway through cooking. Drain on paper towels.
They are so yummy dipped in ranch dressing!! We have yet another dish that we love!!
