Growing up, we always opened one gift on Christmas Eve morning, then the rest of our gifts (from family & friends) after dinner. On Christmas morning, we woke up to see what Santa had left (gifts were not wrapped). I did things the same way once I got married and with Logan until Nathan was born. We kept the same tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve morning, opening the rest of the gifts from friends and family after dinner, but I liked the idea of wrapping EVERYTHING from Santa (well, except for maybe a trampoline..LOL). The boys liked taking turns opening up a gift. It stretched things out a little more and they enjoyed opening presents and seeing what was inside. I would always wrap a surprise gift from us, but everything else had a tag {from:Santa}.
Now that the kids are grown and have crazy schedules, Peter and I wait for one or both boys (and now Lindsey too), to get home. Last year, both of them were away at work. Nathan got home 12/26 and Logan & Lindsey came in on 12/28. We have learned to be flexible with holiday celebrations and try to just go with the flow! This year, Nathan should get home by Christmas Eve, Logan will go back to work that day. We will celebrate early with Logan and Lindsey (next weekend), and have a pretty normal Christmas schedule with Nathan this year.
My sister and nephew usually arrive the day after Christmas, so we get together again to exchange gifts with them. Gift opening for our family has turned into a 2 or 3 day event!
