military diet - day 1

So for obvious reasons, I feel the need to take a little break from food! I've been looking at The Military Diet for awhile now and thought it might be my best option for cutting back and hopefully, lose a few pounds. In any event, I'm hoping to start eating better, eat less, and the biggest thing for me, cut out back on Diet Coke.
Today was day 1 of the 3-day diet. After the three days, Peter will be home and we'll try to get on some sort of "new" eating plan since things haven't been normal at all lately as far as meals are concerned. Now that he'll be home all day during his 2 weeks off, we need to form a routine. We'd like to get back into eating a little breakfast and lunch, and then cook a normal dinner, but watch portions. Neither of us are big night eaters, so we'll just do a lite/healthy snack.
There is a substitution list for things you don't like HERE.
I'm listing the original military diet but will note my substitutions.
There is a suggested plan to follow for the remaining four days of the week HERE if you want to finish the week out. You can start again the following week with the 3-day plan, but I will probably wait to do it again when Peter leaves for work in 2 weeks.

Day 1 - 8/31/15

Breakfast

1/2 grapefruit
1 slice toast
2 T. peanut butter
coffee (or tea) w/caffiene
stevia

Snack
Kiwi (only 42 calories)
(I added this - it's an item on the substitution list)

I used to use regular sugar or splenda- this is such a great alternative.

Lunch

1/2 cup tuna (I used canned albacore)
(I added a little mustard, old bay, & dill pickles = 0 calories)
1 slice toast
coffee or tea w/caffiene
(I had iced tea)
7 grapes
(not on the list but only 21 calories)

Dinner

3 oz. lean meat
I did a hamburger patty (w/about 1T. steak sauce on top=15 calories)
1 cup green beans
1/2 banana
1 small apple

1 cup vanilla ice cream
(I cheated and got coconut flavored!)
:O) :O)

It's supposed to equal out to around 1200+ calories per day. I think I stuck pretty true to the plan. There is a big list of substitutions and non/low calorie things you can add to spice things up a little.

I was NOT hungry at all, and best of all NO Diet Coke! :O)

 Bring on Day 2!!

Homecoming 2015

Homecoming 2015

- Peter started his new job so he missed Homecoming this year. :O( It was definitely a different year. I skipped the first night, stayed a couple of hours the second night, and worked in the kitchen (funnel cakes) the last night. I went home to get a shower and came back, but only stayed until after the raffle.

 - Nathan helped again this year with setting up and worked all three nights. He had a great time catching up with friends....

- this year's popular dance.....[Whip /Nae Nae]

- I had no company this year since Logan was at work and since they had just visited a few weeks ago, Lindsey skipped this year. I also didn't cook (a rare thing during Homecoming weekend) but Nathan wanted to just eat out....that's fine with me. I had a soft crab sandwich for dinner both nights. Julie skipped Homecoming again this year.

- the weather was great! Very pleasant temps, gorgeous sunsets!

- I had a really busy weekend at the b&b. $$

- I went to breakfast at the Chesapeake House with Mom, Dad, and Derek on Sunday morning. :O)

Not my most memorable Homecoming, but I think everyone had a great time. :O)

Chincoteague Visit [day three]

Day three: We headed out early this morning to take in the Farmer's Market.

I really love these!

so true! :O)

This lot was previously the site where a school used to be....the first school my Dad taught at after graduating from college. So, I was, at one time, a Chincoteager! :O)

We didn't get to spend much time at the beach as planned, but at least we got to stop for there for a few minutes.

More packing, then we met Julie and Derek for lunch. I was excited about trying the Hawaiian Chicken Salad that Mom raved about from Sugarbakers, but unfortunately, we got there and it was closed! :O(

Plan B....

I got the Chunky Chicken Salad Croissant -
Chicken breast with red bell pepper, celery, red onion, roasted garlic, a mix of select spices, romaine lettuce, tomato & a little mayonnaise on a croissant.

We had a picnic at the pavilion...

....by now, I think everyone was over the picture taking ;O)

Soon, it was time to load up the cars and head home. I had a wonderful time staying with Mom and Dad at the rental and it was so nice to relax and spend time with my family. Julie works [a lot] but she made time for me and showed me all around. It is rare for us to get to "hang out", so I treasure those few days I got to spend with her. Chincoteague is such a beautiful town and the perfect spot for a little get-away!

Chincoteague Visit [day two]

Day 2: We had a lazy morning hanging out at the rental, then Mom showed me a few of her favorite shops including the Op Shop.
I found a few things, my best buy being a J Jill tee for $1.25. :O)

She told me about mercury glass pumpkins she had seen in Dollar General, so we made a stop by there before meeting up with Julie for lunch at Pico Taqueria. I was excited to try this place, as I had read lots of great reviews.

I read a little about the owners before going, so it was kindof cool "meeting" the four of them. What an awesome business they have.

I got the Chincoteague Classic lettuce, pico de gallo, cotja,
creme fraiche with chicken, the Cilantro Rice Pudding topped with fresh mango, and Daily Drink Special Limeade.

OMG! This lunch was amazing!!

Mom and Dad got.....

a beef, a fish, and a veggie taco and Chips and Salsa (which I sampled).

Julie got a chicken taco and The Chicken City
Blackened chicken, corn and black bean salsa, avacado cream, cotja.

After lunch, we finished our island tour....

did a little shopping and stopped for donuts at Sandy Pony Donuts.

best.donuts.ever

Sea Foam - honey glaze & coconut

Salted Caramel - caramel glaze & pretzels

Surfer Dude - honey glaze, cinnamon sugar, & mini chocolate chips

I'm still thinking about that Sea Foam donut!

Earlier this morning, Mom and Dad found out they could get out of their lease by the first, so we had some packing to do the rest of today!! Later, we bought dinner in and just hung out.

Chincoteague Visit [day one]

Day 1: On Monday after work, I packed up my bags and beach chair and headed to Chincoteague for a little get-away. I wanted to visit before the summer ended and Mom and Dad would be coming back home. They picked me up and we met Julie for dinner. I had several places I wanted to fit into my short two-day visit, and we ended up choosing Don's Seafood for my first meal. The flounder sandwich came highly recommended, so that's what I ordered. It was delicious!

After dinner, they drove me all around the island and we stopped at Island Creamery for dessert before calling it a night.

Cake Batter please....

The line got even longer after we ordered.
