winter get-aways.....

I met Peter last Wednesday, for a couple of nights off before he came home for his 2 weeks. This is our new normal (which I love!), and we look forward to dinner & a movie and some shopping or just driving around to different places. On Wednesday, Kayla and I had breakfast at Circle Inn, then she gave me a ride to Salisbury where I met up with Peter. We had a few errands to run.
my cool car wash photo :O)

We did some shopping, had dinner at Texas Roadhouse, and saw "Daddy's Home" (funny!!) at the movies.

We intended to come back on Thursday, but Peter had a few more things to do. We had lunch at Ponzetti's....(it was as good as I remembered and those were the best onion rings I ever ate!)

We met up with Charles & Debra for dinner at Outback later that night. We have been trying to get together for awhile, so it worked out nice that they were off for the night too. We had a great dinner and lots of laughs. :O)

Peter wanted to go again this week, so yesterday we headed back to Salisbury! We used our rewards points this time at Sleep Inn. It has been triple points since November, so we had racked up enough for a free night...well, almost free, we paid $15 because we were a few points short. I can't stress enough getting the rewards card for the hotel you love. Since October, we have earned a FREE night, a 15% off night (just for leaving feedback on Tripadvisor), and an almost free night. We really love staying there, since they now recognize us when we walk in! :O)

Peter wanted me to try Jersey Mike's Subs for lunch (we are on a sub kick lately). It was sooooo good! I compared sub places on my Taste & See blog. Post HERE.

We drove to O.C. and I stopped in TJMaxx on my quest to find Valentine's Day themed Rae Dunn trays. No luck! (I tried Marshall's too) I only found mugs in both locations, which were so cute, but I have enough mugs (for now!).

We had thought about having dinner at Sunset Grille, on our way back, but it was closed! Bummer! :O( We ended up at Outback again. Then, we made the mistake of choosing a movie on a whim! We almost chose The Revenant, but ended up going to The Hateful Eight. What possessed me to even suggest it!!!!!!!!!!! It was HORRIBLE!!!!

The Hateful Eight (2015) Poster

We have now made a pact that we will not see any movie unless we have done our research! Lesson learned!

We had a quick lunch at Panera this morning, before heading home. We took Lindsey lunch at work (and a little baby gift....so fun browsing the baby section!!). She is super tiny, but has this cute little "bump"! :O) :O) Hopefully, we'll find out the sex in a few weeks. Shopping for gender-neutral stuff isn't near as much fun as looking for all things pink...or blue! :O)

*fall* get-away (round 2)

Appreciating these is truly important. Not rushing through life so much that you miss them is equally so.

Talk about going with the flow....

We are still trying to get used to our new life - living on a schedule where everything we do now revolves around a 2 week time frame. We had everthing all planned out before Peter got home from work last Wednesday - I would meet him as soon as he got off the boat and we spend a few nights away (which we did), then he wanted to enjoy the rest of his trip at home.

Fast forward to this past Wednesday.....Peter mentioned he needed to get the SUV inspected and decided to go on Thursday to get it done....did I want to tag along?...sure!!
So on Thursday, we go off to get the car inspected and planned to get lunch and hit the early boat home. While eating lunch at Ruby Tuesday (which btw, was extremely disappointing and we vowed not to return), Peter said he wished we had planned to stay all day....we wondered why we couldn't....and by the time we got to the car, we had decided to make a day of it. :O)
We started driving with no destination in mind and Peter asked where the pumpkin patch was (hmmm...so he had been listening...). I looked up Wright's Market and off we went.
What a gorgeous day!! I was sad that I hadn't brought my camera (but who would have known I'd be in the pumpkin patch today for goodness sake!). The phone camera does take pretty good pics though!

I was really hoping for Apple Cider Donuts, but they are only available on Sat & Sun (must.go.back). We did get some yummy pumpkin ice cream and the apple cider slushies were amazing! :O)

We bought carrots to feed the goats....

We considered the hay ride, but there were lots of kids there on a field trip, so we just found a quiet spot to eat our snack. I have a feeling this will be a new yearly fall bucket list item for us (and make it on the weekend next time to try those donuts!). It was very relaxing and peaceful, and our snack was delicious!

Nathan had been off for a few nights and was headed home too. On our way to meet up with him at the mall, Peter asked if I wanted to spend the night instead of hitting the late boat? Um, well, did you forget we hadn't packed anything? He assured me it didn't matter - Walmart had everything we needed. Okay! :O) :O)

After saying goodbye to Nathan, we went to check in (once again, at our new favorite hotel in Salisbury -Sleep Inn!!) :O)

The girl at the front desk remembered me from last week :O), and was VERY helpful with our no luggage situation. She gave us a handful of toiletries and then gave us her card. She asked if we would leave feedback on TripAdvisor and if I mentioned her name, she would give us 15% off our next stay there. :O) Will do! :O)

Side note: get a rewards card with whatever hotel chain you use. In our case, with our Sleep Inn stays: earn a free night after 2 stays. You can also save points for gift cards. I'm sure other hotel chains offer similar rewards.

After a quick trip to Walmart for the rest of our essentials, we talked about where to go for dinner. We decided on Sunset Grill. We had enjoyed this restaurant earlier this summer, and we were anxious to go back. Thursday night was Seafood Feast night. You got to choose a soup or salad, an app, and an entree from a select list.

We got the NE Clam Chowder...

Peter got the Single Fried Oyster app....

I got the Lump Crab Imperial Stuffed Mushrooms for mine...

and we both chose the Crab Cake, Shoestring Potatoes, & Creamed Spinach.

It was all delicious!!!

We decided to split a slice of Key Lime Pie for dessert (which was also delish!!).

The weather was so gorgeous....

I love fall skies!

We had hoped to see a movie last week while we were away, but Bridge of Spies didn't come out until that weekend. We chose that one and it didn't disappoint! We love Tom Hanks. Before we went in, we saw the poster out front for the movie Woodlawn. I knew nothing about it, but it said "based on a true story" and there was a football player on the poster. As we were coming out out of the movie, Peter asked if I was up for watching another movie...Woodlawn. In keeping with our "let's go with the flow" frame of mind, I was game. Woodlawn is a MUST SEE!!!!!! It was so touching and inspiring.

About:
A gifted high school football player must learn to boldly embrace his talent and his faith as he battles racial tensions on and off the field in WOODLAWN, a moving and inspirational new film based on the true story of how love and unity overcame hate and division in early 1970s Birmingham, Ala.
Tony Nathan (newcomer Caleb Castille) lands in a powder keg of anger and violence when he joins fellow African-American students at Woodlawn High School after its government-mandated desegregation in 1973. The Woodlawn Colonels football team is a microcosm of the problems at the school and in the city, which erupts in cross burnings and riots, and Coach Tandy Gerelds (Nic Bishop) is at a loss to solve these unprecedented challenges with his disciplinarian ways.
It’s only when Hank (Sean Astin), an outsider who has been radically affected by the message of hope and love he experienced at a Christian revival meeting, convinces Coach Gerelds to let him speak to the team that something truly remarkable begins to happen. More than 40 players, nearly the entire team, black and white, give their lives over to the “better way” Hank tells them is possible through following Jesus, and the change is so profound in them it affects their coach, their school and their community in ways no one could have imagined.

I was so encouraged that this, along with War Room, were choices at the movies, and we also saw trailors for two more Christian movies coming by spring. :O)

What a great unexpected, unplanned getaway....those are always the best kind!
I think I'm learning to like this new go-with-the-flow life.....
:O) :O) :O)

feeling very Jane Austen-y

Monday:

 movie night with friends.....

Obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, a woman travels to a Jane Austen theme park in search for her perfect gentleman.- Austenland

I would never have chosen Austenland, but so glad we watched it. It is so funny!!!

"Austenland" -This hysterical romp through the world of Austen lovers takes our heroine, Jane Hayes, to England where she gets to enter the world of Austen re-enactment, dressing in Empire-waist gowns, dancing by candlelight and falling—in a stumbling, staggering, lose-your-fan-and-sash kind of way—in love with a certain tall, dark Mr. Almost Darcy.
I don't think I have never read anything by Jane Austen (I know-gasp!), and I haven't even seen Pride & Prejudice, so I wasn't sure I'd like this movie, but I loved it!!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen- I've read this book at least 10 times and I fall in love with it even more each time.I love this book even more than "Pride and Prejudice." The relationship between the sisters is so interesting.

Austenland is a modern day spoof-type movie, but it made me want to read something by Austen, or at least watch the movies....I plan to take care of that soon!
AAAH! I love this part!! Especially the look Darcy gives Georgiana when she tells Lizzie that he says she plays well it's like "Georgiana, shut up she wasn't supposed to know that!!" :D

Who is this Mr. Darcy everyone is talking about? :O)

Tuesday:

A snow day!

...and in lieu of our morning phone call, Mom and I had tea!

I'm not the big tea fan that Mom is, but I woke up yesterday with tea on my mind! I gave Mom a big gift basket of tea stuff for Christmas, including a canister of loose tea that I had never tried before. I am officially hooked! It was soooo good! I really like my special time with Mom! (Dad was there too, but I don't think he was into the china tea cup stuff like us...men really don't appreciate the whole ambiance concept at all). ;o)

I have been wanting to try scones and found several recipes on Pinterest that look yummy!

Guess who's having tea instead of Diet Coke this morning?

Wednesday:

Even though I had heard rave reviews about Downton Abbey, it just didn't interest me. I've watched the occasional period piece, but it was never my first choice. I was looking for a series to watch this winter, so I went with DA. I borrowed the first few seasons from Wanda and started it last night. Guess who sat up wayyyyy too late last night finishing the entire first season?????

I'M HOOKED!!!!!

Why did I wait so long to watch????

Think of all the good things we miss out on when we won't try something new.

Wanda and I talk every January about getting together more during the year, and trying more, new, fun things! Of course, watching a movie isn't anything new, and neither is having tea or watching the seasons of a tv show, but all three of these were things I wouldn't normally choose. It made me realize how much I miss out on because I don't want to try new things. I almost always choose what is comfortable- it's time to step out of the box! :O)
Don't be discouraged or fearful...step out on faith and make your dreams come true. Join my team and I will show you how it's done www.southhilldesigns.com/piecesofmyheart

While browsing through the tea related stuff on Pinterest, I came across something that might be our next fun get together!! :O) (And I know the perfect hostess!)

Love Downton Abbey? @worldmarket has everything you need to throw a party with style! Stop by to get free Downton Abbey printables and games, too!

I'm looking forward to trying lots of new things in 2015!! Just think of all we miss out on if we don't!
