SPRING CLEANING + GROVE

G R O V E 🌿

SHIPMENT #3

- this month, in addition to some products I use regularly, I’m trying a few new products to give me some SPRING cleaning motivation.

I got the Method Heavy Duty Degreaser - and even though I have a self-cleaning oven, it really needs some extra TLC. We’ll see what this stuff can do!

• I got the Grove Collaborative Concentrated Floor Cleaner [Orange & Rosemary]. You just add a tube to a 16 oz. spray bottle (which I got free in my first order). It’s supposed to be good on all types of hard floors- so I’m anxious to see if it brightens up the tile in the kitchen

• I got another bottle of Method Toilet Cleaner

• a box of Seventh Generation Tissues

• Grove Collaborative Gel Dish Soap Refill [Pomegranate & Red Current]

• and Mrs. Meyers Hand Soap [Rain Water] which smells amazing!

I spent $23.18 this month (free s/h) and have already started my wish list for next month! If you haven’t tried @grovecollaborative go check it out and get free products with your first order of $20+ with my code

S P R I N G    C L E A N I N G

A few years ago, I started Spring cleaning a little differently. Instead of tearing up a room and putting it back together again, and not finishing it in one day, but messing up the entire house while in the process and getting nothing else done....I started doing [a wall a day]. Yep, one wall---whether it takes 15 minutes or 3 hours, I only do one wall (or floor or ceiling). So starting today, at that pace, my goal is to get the entire house spring cleaned by APRIL 15!!

Here's what my to-do list looks like:

Guest Room
1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall
5) floor
6) ceiling

Front Room
1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall
5) floor
6) ceiling

Living Room
1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall
5) floor
6) ceiling

Our Bedroom
1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall
5) floor
6) ceiling

Kitchen

1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall
5) floor
6) ceiling

Bathroom
1) 1 wall
2) 1 wall
3) 1 wall
4) 1 wall

I really liked this tunic- the perfect length, but the sleeves were a bit tight. (RETURN)

Every Plate Review: Speedy Chicken Tacos

Speedy Chicken Tacos with Spicy Cabbage Slaw

Chicken Tacos with Spicy Cabbage Slaw from @everyplate was a win!
I love subscription box meals and this one will definitely go on my try again list.
The meals are only $5 a plate (plus I got a new customer discount).

This box was only $23.93 for 6 meals!!!
I was skeptical about the quality because of the low price [about half the cost per plate of all the other subscription meals I've tried], but we really loved the first meal and can't wait to try the rest! The packaging wasn't as "fancy" as the others, but the ingredients were just as high quality. Even paying full price [I got a new customer discount this time], the price is very reasonable.

*SUMMER* Stitch Fix Box

Stitch Fix
Summer Box

So, my summer box arrived today and here's what I got......

(1) Diba Indio Suede Peep Toe Heel - $89

These shoes fit like a glove! Unfortunately, I don't wear too many heels and they were too pricey. They are super cute though!!
(RETURN)

(2) Daniel Rainn Calisto Pleat Detail Tulip Sleeve Blouse -$64
I really liked this top - perfect fit, I like the keyhole neckline in front and the pleated detail in back. I think it would pair up nicely with a pair of olive skinny jeans and black sandals. I would have kept this but the tulip sleeves were cut up too high. I like a little sleeve in my tops.
(RETURN)

(3) Market & Spruce Pardee Cross Back Detail Knit Top -$44

This top was super cute!! it was too short though for my style. It looked really good with the red skinny jeans up next.
(RETURN)

(4) Warp & Weft Clare Frayed Hem Skinny Jean - $78

Cute - but they plain out just didn't fit!
(RETURN)

(5) Market & Spruce Derryl Applique Detail Linen Tunic - $68

I LOVE THIS!!!
It fit perfectly, I love the style! I think it will look great
with olive or dark washed jeans plus black sandals. :O)
(KEEP)

THOUGHTS: I was really happy, overall, with the items my stylist picked out for me. I liked all 5 pieces but really love the tunic I kept!

Tunic = $68.00
   fee   - $20.00

[Stitch Fix] Follow-Up

~ Stitch Fix ~

As I was getting ready for church today, I realized the items I grab first are usually things I got through Stitch Fix. That made me think about doing a follow-up post on all the items I've kept from my monthly shipments. My goal in signing up for SF was to add a few new pieces to my closet, keeping only things I planned to actually wear, and trying to dress more stylish (how does a 50+ woman dress these days anyway?). I can honestly say I have enjoyed getting the monthly boxes (now switched to 4x a year - seasonal) and do wear the clothes and accessories I've bought through SF. I've added a lot of basic go-to pieces that actually fit, and some really stylish items that I love. I've noticed whenever I get a compliment on something I'm wearing....it's always something that came from Stitch Fix!!!

Here's what's new in my closet:

MAY 2018
my latest addition......
Rose Gold / Natural Toms ---w/ Polka Dots!
<3 <3 <3

JANUARY 2018---> [switched to seasonal]

I kept a Navy Quilted Vest that I love! It fits really well, and isn't too puffy so I don't look too fat in it!

NOVEMBER 2017

Charcoal Grey Sweater Duster
Looks great with leggings or jeans and boots <3 A great basic, with a little more style.

SEPTEMBER 2017---> returned all (switched to every 2 months)

AUGUST 2017

Burgandy/Floral BOHO style top which I actually wore to church with white pants and sandals (below).

JULY 2017

Gold / Brown Leather Strappy Sandals - these are super comfy & very pretty!

JUNE 2017

I kept two tops this month - both of which I love and wear often!

at Kayla's graduation.....[with black capris]

and this past Easter......[with white pants]

and this top......

                    [jeans are SF too!]

MAY 2017

Silver Cuff Bracelet

APRIL 2017---> all returned

MARCH 2017

Only kept this top for part of Kayla's birthday gift. She needed maternity tops and this tunic looked good on her.

FEBRUARY 2017

I kept the entire box!!! I love and wear all 5 pieces all the time!! I really love SF jeans! They are well worth the money and always fit just right. I love the top and cardigan too! It's lightweight and the floral back looks great with the olive Toms! And I really love my black polka-dotted rain jacket! It's bold but I love the pop! <3

JANUARY 2017

When all else fails....buy another pair of TOMS!

I really like this look!
Stitch Fix ♥️

DECEMBER 2016

Everyone needs a comfy cardigan....I kept this one from this shipment!

[comfy-comfy-comfy!]

NOVEMBER 2016

My very first box is what sold me on Stitch fix! I kept the entire box!!!

I have worn those black pants 100 times!!!! I love them! They look good with everything...you can dress them up, you can dress them dow, with boots, with sandals, I just love them. I love adding that black/taupe striped tunic along with the taupe suede vest and even the gold feather necklace with black boots to the jeans.....

                Christmas 2016

I just realized I don't wear the olive military jacket.....It fits but its a little tight under the arms. :O( I might consider selling it because my goal was to keep only things I will wear!!! I love the style and cool design on back...too bad it doesn't feel good on.

So as you can see, I have had a positive experience with Stitch Fix. I have changed account options a few times only because I was too busy to keep up with monthly shipments and I've been trying to cut some extras out of our budget. For now, I'm going to try seasonal boxes, as I feel 4x a year will be a good way to still add Stitch Fix items to my closet.

Hello Fresh Review: Rib-Eye Steak Over Gruyere Mashed Potatoes

Rib-Eye Steak Over Gruyere Mashed Potatoes
with Roasted Carrots, Hazelnuts, and Dijon Butter

I actually substituted the (one) rib-eye steak included in this meal for 2 nice porterhouse steaks that Peter cooked on the grill. I saved the rib-eye for a future dinner for one meal for me when Peter went back to work. (below)

I made the Roasted Carrots, Gruyere Mashed Potatoes, and Dijon Butter according to the recipe.
It was ah-mazing!!

INGREDIENTS

- 1 oz. hazelnuts
- 12 oz. Yukon gold potatoes
- 8 oz. baby carrots
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/4 oz. fresh parsley
 - 1 tsp. paprika
- 1 T Montreal Steak Spice
- 2 tsp. dijon Mustard
- 2 T sour cream
- 1/2 cup gruyere cheese

(rib-eye) 2 Porterhouse Steaks

INSTRUCTIONS {HERE}

The rib-eye was delicious with fresh corn on the cob and a slice of tomato on the side!

*S*P*R*I*N*G* Stitch Fix Box

Stitch Fix
*SPRING BOX*

I decided to switch to seasonal boxes from Stitch Fix and my Spring fix arrived yesterday!

I'll go ahead and show you what I kept because I LOVE LOVE them!!

[1] Rose Gold / Natural Toms - $54
<3 <3 <3
[KEEP]

[2] Daniel Rainn Dalina Crochet Detail Knit Top - $58.00

I really loved this dark plum top, but it really looked more fall-y than spring-y so I didn't keep it.
[RETURN]

[3] Vigoss Erika Skinny Jeans - $68.00

Stitch Fix jeans are THE BEST! Too bad I just bought pair of blue skinny jeans. :O(
[RETURN]

[4] Jachs Girlfriend Kailene Chambray Top - $64.00

Great casual basic but I already have a couple of chambray shirts.
[RETURN]

[5] Daniel Rainn Ferraro Split Neck Blouse - $68.00

This one just looked a little "old"---silky and rolled sleeve and I really wasn't in love with the print plus it was wayyyy too expensive.
[RETURN]

THOUGHTS: I was really happy, overall, with the items my stylist picked out for me. I love the TOMS! I would have kept the jeans if I hadn't just bought a pair. I really loved the dark plum top on....but decided to stick with things that will add to my spring/summer wardrobe. I liked the chambray top too, but didn't need another. My least favorite piece was the floral top.

TOMS = $54.00
                                  - $20.00 (stylist fee)
                               ----------------------------
                         $34.00 + tax
