The Happiness Project
Make Time For Friends
Part 2: Be Generous
"Studies show that your happiness is often boosted more by providing support to others than from receiving support yourself."
Do good, feel good.
Being generous by taking dinner to someone who is sick or shut in is a good thing, but there are other ways too.
Help People Think Big
"One of the most generous acts is to help people think big. Words of enthusiasm and confidence from a friend can inspire you to tackle an ambitious goal: "You should do that!" "You should apply for the job!" "You should start your own business!"
"One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy. One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself."
Bring People Together
Look for ways to bring people together.
I always look forward to getting together with friends for a bonfire at the beach. A few times during the summer, a few of us meet at the beach for a fun, relaxing evening. Andrea usually gets the group together, most of the time spur of the moment, but there are usually a dozen or more moms who show up. Everyone is crazy busy, but we always have the best time! This is something that is not on the to-do list or marked on the calendar, just a friend who gets us all together to do something fun. That definitely brings happiness!! :O)
Contribute in My Way
If you are good at organizing- help someone move in or help them get organized, if you are good at photography- offer to take some pictures of their new baby or a family picture. Contribute in your own way to help bring someone else happiness. Surprisingly, it will make you happy too!
