weekend in charlotte, nc

Day 1 Friday, October 3, 2014 - We started our drive to Charlotte on Friday morning and drove straight through except for stopping for gas and a quick lunch at Arbys. The weather was nice pretty much the whole way. It looked stormy right before we got there, and we got a sprinkle, but other than that, it was a gorgeous weekend.

Before we got to Charlotte, I did Express Deals on Priceline and got a 3-1/2 star room for $53 (saved 40%) plus tax!! With Express Deals, you don't know which hotel you are getting, only the type of hotel. I ended up getting the Double Tree near the airport. Very nice room/friendly staff/clean hotel. It did have two minuses: no free wi-fi, and no free breakfast. There was a restaurant and/or room service, but it was pricey. Overall though, a great deal!!

We started searching online for a good place for dinner. Nathan found a restaurant nearby the hotel with great reviews, so that's where we went.

Duckworth's Grill & Taphouse
It was packed, but we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. I ordered this:

NEW! Margherita Chicken Flatbread with Balsamic Reduction
Grilled chicken, fresh sliced mozzarella, Roma tomatoes & caramelized onions topped with fresh basil & a balsamic reduction

It was DELICIOUS!!! :O)

Peter ordered the ribs - he said they were the best he had ever had!!

Nathan got the wings and Kayla got steak. We were all very happy- and stuffed!!

They each got the caramel cheesecake for dessert, but I had my eye on the coconut cake.

YUM!!!

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel and called it a night. We had lots planned for tomorrow!
