I debated posting anything at all on the topic of politics or not standing for the National Anthem or other controversial things going on in our world right now, but a big part of my blog is to document what's going on with my family, or in the world. While I would rather just forget that our country has actually even gotten to this point, I realize that this is where we are as a nation.
Did I ever think NFL or other professional sports players would want to or better yet be allowed to show such disrespectful and downright un-American displays? NEVER. I understand rights, I understand protests, but what I see in this picture makes me so sad for our country. I am very proud to be an American. I hold tight to the words of the National Anthem, I respect the flag and all that it stands for, I honor those who fought for and are still fighting for our freedom, and most importingly, I pray that God will bless our nation.
How sad that our country has drifted so far from these words....
Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed,
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched,
Were so gallantly streaming.
And the rocket's red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night,
That our flag was still there.
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave,
For the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed,
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched,
Were so gallantly streaming.
And the rocket's red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night,
That our flag was still there.
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave,
For the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
I'm torn as to who to vote for. I watched the debate last week and all I could think about was that no matter who wins this election, our country loses. I take pride in being able to vote, but as of now, I just can't choose a candidate. I'm praying hard about what I should do. I hate not voting, but....
While I wish I had all the answers and could take away all the hate and conflict that's in our world today, I know I can't. But I can start with me. I can pray for our nation and for wisdom to make good decisions that will affect me, and those I love, and others around me. I'm proud to be an American. God Bless the USA!
I challenge anyone who reads this to listen to the words of this song,
and then pray for our country as often as you are reminded.
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA
From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston,
And New York to L.A
Well there's pride in every American heart
And its time we stand and say
That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA
*This will be my one and only post concerning anything political or controversial. It's not what my blog is about, but I feel it's important to post.
