Saturday 9: Happy Holidays!

Saturday 9: Happy Holidays! (from the archives)

1. As you can see, Sam loved giving her annual wish list to Santa. Yet some children are reluctant to climb into Jolly Old St. Nick's lap. Did you enjoy the tradition or were you shy? Or did you by pass it altogether -- either because you wrote him a letter or because your family didn't celebrate Christmas?

I don't remember being afraid of Santa, but I always wrote a letter to mailed to the North Pole!!

2. Are you currently on the Naughty or Nice list? How did you get there?

I always try to stay on the nice list!! :O)

Sorry Santa! I can explain...

3. Did you ship any gifts to friends and family this year? If so, which one traveled the farthest?

No gifts shipped this year...except if you count gifts being sent to Dockside via the mailboat! :O)

4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year?

1. If you bake during the holidays, what is your favorite thing to make?

I do bake, but it is my very least favorite thing about Christmas! Our family is not big on sweets (Nathan likes them more than Peter and I), so I focus on making lots of the hearty and party foods!! :O) I do bake at least 3 or 4 kinds of "easy" cookies though.

2. Present giving: Gift bag vs wrapped box?

I LOVE to wrap!!!

3. What do you keep your thermostat on during the winter in your house?

about 68....no higher please! I actually have had NO heat on for the past week or so due to our abnormally mild December temps. Perfect! :O)

4. When thinking of your "Christmas to-do list" how much did you actually get done?

I managed to finish most everything on the to-do list. I did skip a few church/town activities, due to either being away or just not wanting to go out. I really hated missing this year's Christmas Brunch at Fisherman's Corner, as it is my favorite!

What a weird, weird, Christmas Eve!

  • home alone
  • 70 degrees
  • thunderstorm
  • no cooking (leftover cheese ball for dinner!)
  • napping
  • Christmas movies all day (watching Prancer....bad idea.....I forgot how sad that movie is!) :0(
  • trying to find something "cool" to wear to the Candlelight service (it's definitely not sweater weather!!)

  • I did manage to keep one Christmas Eve tradition.....

I must have been a very good girl this year, because I got some really great gifts....

    - Ugg Shoes from Mom & Dad

    CHRISTMAS 2015 (part two)

The best gifts aren't things you buy at the store, the best gifts are those little unexpected moments you get to spend together as a family. Peter and Nathan were scheduled to be back to work early this morning, Logan would head home late this afternoon....just missing each other again. Logan rarely gets a good crew change time and never on Tuesday evening. We were all so happy when we found out that Logan finally got paid back for all the times he went in early and would get home Tuesday night this time :0) So, the three of us headed to Dockside yesterday to spend the night with Logan and Lindsey! :O)
We had been able to visit them a few weeks ago, because Peter hadn't been released to go back on the boat yet. We didn't get to exchange gifts then because it was too early and neither of us had finished shopping yet.
It is no fun that Peter and Nathan are on the opposite tour of Logan. Logan and Nathan hadn't seen each other since April, so they were both VERY happy to be reunited!

Once we all got there, we ordered take-out from Water's Edge, then Logan and Lindsey opened all of their gifts from us. We watched Christmas Vacation, talked, laughed, and got caught up. Peter had to leave for work around 3:00 a.m., so we called it a night, but left Nathan and Logan still chatting away until Nathan had to leave at 2 a.m. for a long drive to Philly. They really miss hanging out together, so they both loved having this time, even if it was only a few hours.

I took lots of pictures but forgot to upload them from Peter's phone before he left. I will do another post later with more pictures! :O) :O) I know this year is different, but strange enough, it has been one of our best Christmases yet!!

I think as you grow older your christmas list gets smaller and the things you really want for the holidays can’t be bought
