my favorite time of day - morning. 


Devotions, prayer, coffee, 

and some quiet time set the tone for my day. 

This, for me, is self-care, which seems to be 

more and more important the older I get. ❤️

It's JANUARY = let's get ORGANIZED!

IT'S JANUARY = let’s get organized! 

Following along with Laurie @theglamfarmhouse for a weekly organization challenge. ☑️ 

First, it was go clean your fridge and junk drawer. I did the fridge/freezer first and managed to fill a trash bag full of leftover holiday food and expired stuff. 

I also made an inventory of what’s in the freezer and planned a

week’s worth of meals using stuff only on hand. I was already using a few organizers, 

including these handled bins which are perfect for storing 

smoothie ingredients together. 

On to the junk drawer - ready to toss out more clutter!

This is a huge drawer that is really being misused. I only keep envelopes, keys, kids stuff for outside, and a few misc. items. I'd like to do away with having a "junk" drawer, and actually put this space to good use.

Storing the extra Mrs. Meyers Dish Detergent I bought on sale in my last GROVE order. Snagged some of my favorite holiday scents plus a few of my most used basics in my order last month.

I ended up cleaning out the drawer above it too. This one holds dish towels and rags, pot holders and foil, plastic bags, etc. I was low on most supplies in this drawer as well as needing to replace my worn towels, rags, and pot holders. I did a WALMART order and got this nice set from Mainstay to replace my old stuff.

Next, the pantry and spice cabinet....

this pantry cupboard and a cabinet for spices/baking goods are the only cabinets I use for food.

cupcake liner & sprinkles storage

I use this stackable, lockable storage container for spices.

Came across this package of Kodiak Cakes pancake mix while cleaning the pantry and decided to try for our breakfast for dinner. They were so YUMMY!!!

Last week, The challenge was organize under your sink. 

This one was easy, I just wiped out the cabinet and reorganized 

all the cleaners (well stocked from GROVE).

"Kitsen" Set

This little guy is gonna make his wife happy some day! 

He loves anything to do with the “kitsen” and especially loves washing the dishes. Got him this little sink of his own and he loves it! 

Kamry got one last year and I just think it's the cutest thing for kids to play with, while learning about chores.

I made this delicious slow cooker dish last night and it was a hit! We are big stroganoff fans anyway and I love Mom’s recipe (that I’ve always used), but this one is really good and super easy to make in the crock pot! Holiday Drinks: Mock Moscow Mules

Mock Mules and waiting for the ball to drop is as big as it gets here! 

I copied this non-alcohol version of Moscow Mules from Chelsea over @blessed_ranch 

(go follow her - you’ll love her account 🌿) 

MOCK MULES: Fill your copper mugs with ice, cranberry juice, ginger ale, a splash of fresh lime. Garnish with a lime slice, fresh cranberries, and a sprig of fresh rosemary. 

Very tasty and so festive! 🎉

Happy New Year 2020!

Tradition has it that eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day brings good luck.

I'm not really the supersticious type, but I do love traditions. I've never been a fan of black-eyed peas except for the year I made Pioneer Woman's Hoppin' John recipe. This year I did a similar version minus a few ingredients and they were delicious. I added sautéed onion and lots of ham (from our Christmas spiral ham), and used chicken broth instead of water to cook them in. In any event, they were very tasty and can now say I'm a fan and should be very lucky!  

Speaking of traditions, kids going door to door "New Year's Giving" is still a thing on TI, although, it has strayed from the original "boys only" rule to girls joining in on the fun as well. Actually, I had wayyy more girls than boys at my door this year. The tradition started years ago, when it was believed that if a dark-haired boy walked through your house after the New Year came in, you would have good fortune that year. Everyone who came to your door was given money. It gradually strayed from it only being a dark-haired boy to be the first to greet the New Year, to a boy with any color hair, and later to either boy or girl. This probably changed about 20 years ago, when Nathan was little and my friends (who all had girls) thought they should have equal rights. LOL 

There's a funny story that goes with this, but I'll share that in another post. :O)

Rowen wasn't feeling it this year, but managed to hit up most of his family and collected a nice little sum. 

I sent Kamry a card with New Year's Give money and a note telling her about this TI tradition, and told her to come next year to go New Year's Giving too!
